In class the teacher was yelling at someone for talking. She said "all the girls in school talk in class." the teacher replied "scmnz doesn't" the student then said "she doesn't count, shes not a real person." then everyone in the class laughed.

I don't understand what was meant by me not being a real person. I clearly am. Doesn't this girl understand that i could hear her say that and that those words hurt me? Why did the other kids laugh and think it was funny? I don't get the joke.

Maybe what she said was mean so kids laughed because it was mean. I don't get why people would laugh at things they found mean.

Maybe she doesn't see you as a real person because you are different so she doesn't count you.

That's not funny at all. It is cruel and insensitive. Stupid humans.

It is cruel. I agree that it is probably because you're different than the person who cracked the joke.

I always think in analogies.

It's like if you have a room full of engineers with only one chemist, the engineers are likely to poke fun of the chemist for not being like the engineers. The engineers (or classmates) might be on an ego trip thinking their way is correct, and when a company manager shoots them down and calls them out for it (like your teacher yelling at your classmates), they become hurt and attack the chemist who didn't get in trouble (you).

You're all important in your own ways, but your classmates failed to realize that you're just as important. They'll learn one day.

Yeah, that was definately cruel. She is saying you're not like everybody else and therefore don't count. And she meant overall I'd say.

It was an insensitive thing to say - I used to get this when I didn't socialize in class and just did my work, people would say things like that I was a robot or they'd be amazed when I made a mistake or laughed. They weren't intentionally being mean I don't think, they just didn't understand how someone could be so "still" and apparently different from them I guess. Best case scenario which I think may actually be the case in your case is that they don't understand you and are curious about you, but weren't trying to be mean although they did hurt you.

Because most teenagers think its funny to take the piss out of other people. Its just them being wrong. Their brains are being clouded by whatever is cool at the moment and that happens to be taking the piss out of others.

Just ignore them because they`re being pathetic.

It was very cruel, and unfortunately, very typical. If being " a real person" means you are mean, insensitive, and get your self- worth at other people's expense, I'd count your lucky stars that you are not " a real person". I know I would. When I was in high school and did a lot of theatre and actually had a couple of friends (all the theatre kids were odd, it was a lot easier to fit in), it was common for one of us to declare at the end of a difficult day "I hate people". Someone would always say "I'm a person. Do you hate me?" and the first person would say "Of course not. You may be a person, but you're not a "people". Which meant, " you're not like everybody else, and that's a good thing."I'm sorry she hurt your feelings. Please don't let anything this person says be too important.

That was bullying. The teacher, as the person in authority, is responsible for allowing it. She should have contradicted that other student. Can you get somebody to help you? Is there a procedure for bullying-prevention at your school?

The kids found this funny because of the fact that it was untrue. The person who said you weren't a person was stating that you are an exception to the norm of kids who talk, and the fact that they pointed this out with an obviously false statement made it funny to others because of the new way of thinking about how you don't talk in class.
It's likely that the speaker was joking around and didn't mean to hurt you, but you still could and should talk to her, explain that you didn't think it funny, and if she doesn't apologize or continues to be mean, you should talk to administration.

She was pointing out your differences, which was mean, and the other kids found it funny. Some probably didn't agree but went on with it because that's what people do to fit in better.

That was pretty bad...I hope the teacher reprimanded them.

I'm surprised the teacher didn't say anything about this...so sorry that you had to go through it. The other student was essentially calling you a non-person just because you present differently than everyone else. That's just mean.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.
