I just started one for the American South-East.

LINK
I don't know if it will ever happen but it's worth a shot.

Does nobody in the American south have a meet up thread? There are no aspie support groups here and I feel alone.

maybe not a smart question from me, but have you tried meetup.com?

I have but there seem to be no groups in my area.
It also makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

I am ashamed to admit that I have aspergers anywhere Else but here. I don't really think that anyone with aspergers lives near me or there would already be a group.

well, i live out in the sticks in yahooland also, and i am sure there are aspies here [my sister is a special educator and she cares for them in the classroom] but the ones not in school tend to be very "closeted" [for want of a better word] or very truculant and nasty, to better match their social surroundings out here. IOW i haven't been able to find any nice aspies out here, so i searched meetup.com and found in the next county over, there was a group, so i put my driving glasses on and drove an hour into the state capitol [a major biggish city] and met with 'em, and i haven't looked back. trying to meet anybody out in the sticks is a losing proposition, IMHO.
i am wondering, why would you be ashamed to admit your AS around other AS-types such as in an aspie meetup?

Actually hyperlexian, I think it'd be better if we organised future meetups on that old London meetup thread...cos then everything was in one place.
