What happens when we see a mad man across the street.

The man is howling, looks weird, torn clothes, shabby
and reaction of people is one by one runs away, some hide behind trees
some just avoid making eye contact
and many of them want a excuse to just become invisible when you are around.

I felt the same way when I am around people their reaction is same which is
with a roadside mental patient.

The torn clothes and shabby appearance (if you mean it in the sense of unkempt, poor hygiene, filthy) would drive me off as well because scruffy, perhaps even smelly people are repulsive.

Being and acting strange is one thing, unkempt appearance another.
