Eye appointment = funny? Huh?

I called one of those chain eyeglass stores to see about their hours so I could get my eyes checked. The lady who answered offered 3 different options for appointments with the optometrist. I picked a time, then told my NT boyfriend. He laughed and said that places like that take walk ins, like I was a dork for making an appointment. I asked why it was so funny, and he said it is sweet how I operate. I think he looked amused, but who knows.

Why was this so funny? How is making an appointment when offered 3 options for appointments quirky/aspie/weird/whatever?

You may find that you best option is to find a optometrist locally and not at some chain store.
Chain stores tends to hire people who graduated at or near the bottom of their class or people who are recent graduates who are looking for a first job.
Not a place where a person with lot's of experience would want to work.

Essentially - you wouldn't expect the same quality as you would from a established optometrist office.

My question wasn't about optometrists, it was about why making an appointment was so funny.

Its not funny in any sense that will translate to others who weren't there. I think he is just expressing his fondness for you. Laughing and playful teasing is a way of doing that.

It might not have been a very extreme example of your and his different approaches, but the moment made him laugh with you fondly.

I think you're probably right -- I never get it when it's playful teasing. When I asked him, he said the thing about it being sweet how I operate. I let it be at that since I think he can get a bit worn thin with the explanations.

I would just file this under "Strange things that NT's do".

I think I see it and it kind of bugs me that as a guy you don't get to be considered 'cute' for that kind of thing (more likely judged as dumb, I think). OTOH it seems a bit patronizing, too, like, "you're cute when you're angry," so at least I don't have to put up with that.

Now that I think about it, while that place might take walk-ins that doesn't mean that they're not going to be mobbed when you go there, so making an appointment probably is a good idea, on practical, logical grounds.

I dunno, I think your boyfriend may be doing a "I know better how the world works than you do," thing. I think that sort of stuff and other things leads to the impression of being "child-like."

Looking at it logically, phoning to make an appointment is perfectly sensible. I would guess that your boyfriend was pointing out a difference in your temperaments. He is more likely to do something on the spur of the moment while you prefer to know in advance what is going to happen. By the sounds of it he was just amused.

I don't think it's an aspie thing or weird. I'm NT and make appointments. Walk-in appointments are all very well, but if they place you are going is busy you could be left waiting for hours in a queue. Just makes sense to book in advance.

I don't know about yours, but the place I go to get my eyes check requires you make an appoint, in fact they must be made weeks in advance. If you don't have an appointment, you won't be seeing anyone.
