I mean that is there a unwritten rule not to teach social skills to someone? It could solve most problems to make unwritten rules written. Like "do/don't do this in situation x". Or is it just so much depended on the situation that it is too large subject to teach like mathematics, foreign languages etc.

The Info & Media tab here at WP drops down a list that includes books. I think some of them may help. You can also try the General Autism forum here. Someone may have posted on there about social skills books. I know I have seen some posts here that mention some books about that here at WP. I just don't happen to remember the names of the books. Because I am a hermit by choice, I am not all that interested any more in learning a bunch of social skills I don't really need any more. It might have helped me when I was younger, but I didn't learn about Asperger's until a few years ago, and I am now in my early 50s. Because of my other health problems I am on disability, and I live alone, so I don't often have to be in social situations. I can handle simple situations like dealing with people when out running errands, or brief visits with relatives, so I don't really need the social skills help any more. It might have helped me when I was younger, though.

Do check out the General Autism forum, and the Info & Media tab drop down list. You should be able to find what you are looking for in one of those areas. You could also do an I-net search for social skills books. :D

A quick search for books on Amazon shows lots of social skills guides. I haven't read any of them though.

There was a thread here on it, until somebody stole it and tried to publish it.

I am actually writing one. It will be a full-length book, accessible to everyone in a few years.

There was a thread in General Discussion I believe called the Autism Social Rule Book or something like that. Many pages of posts contributed by lots of users over a long time. It was a sticky. Several people had mentioned that they would like to see it published so this self diagnosed lady joined and after several posts printed out the whole thread.

She said she is an author and an editor. She edited it, put it together, put it online and was in negotiations with a publisher. No mention of it was made beforehand to anyone on the site, or Alex. She said those who contributed would get a free copy. And she hadn't even asked for permission to do this. Several people were excited about it and all and I asked who gets the profits. She said she hasn't decided what to do with them yet. Cornflake asked if she had permission from Alex and she said yes. He asked to see a copy of it. She then backtracked and said she's trying to get hold of him. Well we smelled a skunk.

I told her she stole their ideas, without permission and I hope that every single person who posted in that thread would sue the pants off her for theft of intellectual property. I also pointed out that as an author and editor she would know that you just can't do that without permission, plus anything published online is considered previously published material and most publishers won't take it.

She then got kind of well smarmy and gave us a fake apology for doing it, and made it sound like "poor me, I was doing something wonderful for you out of the goodness of my heart and those spoilsports ruined it". Most people didn't buy it.

The original thread was moved pending investigation, and her announcement thread was removed as well. I'll see if I can find the "apology" thread, and also the thread that explains it in the .net discussion forum.

<Link to her " apology" thread>

<Link to the explination of where the thread went>

Check it out, it's some serious theft and bs'ing on her part.

BTW, she's the reason for my signature line now. She can't steal my posts.
