As many of you are probably aware, some posters at urbandictionary.com seem to think we're all just a bunch of emos. Not that their opinions matter, but I just think that's a very odd accusation to make. I mean, aren't emos NT to the core? They change their way of dressing, way of acting, the music they listen to, etc. just to fit into a group. And they claim to be "nonconformist" even though they're some of the most conformist people alive. So anyway, I'm just wondering if there's any truth at all to Aspies being emo. Are there any emos or ex-emos here?

Ew, absolutely not. At my school, I'm considered to be a prep. Then again, 85% of my school's population falls into that category. Here's my school's break-up:

Prep and/or jock (the two usually go together, but not always): 85%

Goth, Punk, and Emo: 5%

Ghetto Wanna-Be: 5%

Country: 3%

Actual Ghetto: 2%

Well, if I go by this definition:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_%28slang%29

I guess I look "emo"... But isn't this kind of look associated with grunge, punk and goth as well?

Either way, I'm not a huge Dashboard Confessional fan... Listening to the Guana Batz right now!! !...

Nope, I'm not. Emo's annoy me because they are fake. Why would someone try to be depressed in order to look cool? Or why ever?

No. My angst is bad ass, and the music I like encourages one to cut other people.

But, emo bashing is popular and easy. So I'm giving that one a pass.

I don't quite get the hostility towards these so-called 'emos', but then maybe I don't understand what an emo is. An emo is a depressed person who lets their depression define them as a person, right? It seems to me that emos need help then.

The other day I saw this person with a T-shirt that said KILL ALL EMOS! on it, and had a picture of a person pointing a gun towards an emo's head, who was busily cutting his wrist. I don't think there's justification for things like that, and I don't like the idea that someone is actually making money out of making cheap pot-shots.

Imagine any particular fad that produces its own music, style of dress, and subculture that is so over that high school kids all over the country are aware of it and make it the ubiquitous "high school kid" thing for several years. Like "grunge" in the nineties.

Emo (an abbreviation of "emotionally-driven Hardcore punk") is a term now broadly used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage. It is also used to describe fans of this genre, most commonly teenagers. (e.g., emo kid). The actual term "emo" originated in the mid-1980s D.C. scene, with the band Rites of Spring, as well as bands such as Fugazi, Moss Icon, and Antioch Arrow. ...

Was a google definition, but emos do more stuff than described their.

Well, the majority of emos I know are not even depressed. That's why I don't like them.
