Oh dear, where to start with this one...

Well for a couple of years now I've had this really nasty swearing problem, where I swear profusely in most casual settings (and sometimes slips out in professional settings too!) and it really gets me in trouble a lot. But I really don't know how to approach this problem; I've tried to use a bit more of an elaborate vocabulary but I keep landing on the same old swear words in spoken speech. If I try to not swear it severely slows me down and I have to think out all my words very carefully... but that doesn't come off as good when you're in a professional setting. So I need to figure out a way to not swear but be able to speak and express myself at a fairly normal rate without the words.

I'm worried that my manager might think I'm uninhibited or stupid because of it. He kinda has given me some hints that he thinks I'm "lower" so to speak, but he's kind of a jerk anyhow. Nonetheless, he's going to be the jerk that the hiring manager at my next job is gonna talk to, so I need to get this under control.

What do you think might help? : O I mean I try to approach it but each time I keep falling back into my habits and I know it's gonna hurt me in the long run.

maybe say some okay words with hard letters in such as K sounds. Hard letters is why swearing is sort of satisfying.

e.g. Oh Krunch!!

If you find it difficult not to swear in professional settings then you might need to break the habit and not swear at all. If you swear frequently when outside of work it is difficult to 'turn it off'. Some people manage it, others do not. You could try using different words, but over all I'd suggest being more aware of what you are saying generally. You could use a swear jar - every time you swear you add money to it and that money has to go to charity. It might just train you to be more conscious of what you are saying. I used to swear quite a bit, but I've cut it down to almost nothing now although I still have room to improve.

Learn some swear words in a foreign language - preferably an uncommon language, so that you don't swear in front of some visiting dignitaries from the same country as your new swear words.

Latin works (unless you hang around Catholic priests who studied in Rome):

I swear too much, I can't help it. I was brought up where it was like swearing was a first language to my parents. They used to tell me off and I'd say, you've only yourself to blame for swearing in front of your children, we will copy your habits.

I still do swear, but try this one.

"Cheese and crackers got all muddy!"
