I thought the title was setting me up for a trite seminar on "personal dynamics", but I was wrong, this book is good.

I am not sure if I have autism or if I am just socially awkward, but I read through most of this book today (it's a quick read, but I will

have to read it again, as it is packed with good information) and it made me think about interaction from the other's point of view.

Being sincere is a big part of this, apparently, sincerely being interested in other's words.

Since I have been learning what (most) of my deficiencies in social interaction are, I can hone in on them with this simple guide.

There are only about 15 rules the author sets down in this book, with many examples, from, among others, Ben Franklin, Freud, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and others who excelled in social influencing others.

I read it some years ago. It does work, to an extent. I've forgotten about the specifics though, by now I've already internalized all what I found useful

Well the best take home message from the book is "if you want to gather honey, do not push the bee hive over"

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

The book has many wonderful points. The caveat is Carnegie wrote this book in 1936, and society had a more community point of view then. Now it seems society has shifted towards a more self-centered point of view. One must be careful that you don’t become someone’s door mat when using some of his rules.
