Without prejudice, is it a common thing for Aspies to give excuses whenever someone tries
to give advice or positive criticism to them ?

I found that I've given a lot of excuses most of my life, just cause I don't like moving out of
my comfort zone.

I would think any kind of criticism would make one feel defensive, but it is hard to have to listen to how you do things. I get comments on my clothes, or why I don't eat. But that kind of criticism just rolls of me like a duck's back :) (i don't know if this expression works in English) I haven't changed over the years, so I figured if it doesn't really help me then I ignore it.

I find I'm always giving excuses. Some excuses are completely true and go to my advantage, others are sort of true but exaggerated.

I don't think it's just Aspies though. I find most people make excuses when they're lacking courage or don't want to do something but don't want to admit it either. My friend makes excuses with jobs. Each time there's a job offered to her (a job what's suitable in every way), she always says ''I can't take a job yet, I've got bits to do in my house'', and then each time I see her she still hasn't got round to completing anything in her house, and just says the same thing every week. It's been two years now and there's still stuff piled up everywhere. Then she complains that she is skint and needs a job. I know it is hard to get motivated when it comes to jobs, but I lack more confidence than she does because my AS holds me back, but I still had to push myself a little in order to achieve something, and now I have a job. I couldn't make excuses.

I tend to justify myself when people give me advice or criticism (especially if they offer it without my asking). I think I tend to take these things more personally than many people do.
