Friends or flirting?

If someone starts talking to you that you've just met or don't know very well, how do you tell whether they just want to be friends, or if they're flirting?
This goes for both in real life and also online, like via Facebook or something.
There was this kid a couple of weeks ago, I really thought we were just friends but it turns out that he likes me... :/
Soooooo, how can you tell?

I really can't say. I do have this instinct that most Aspies haven't got, that tells me whether somebody wants to be friends or is just flirting, or if somebody actually likes me.
