"You dare?!"
I saw a Youtube video quite some time ago. I would like to post this video here but I can't find it anymore. In the video, an Aspie man and an NT woman were having a heated argument.
Aspie: Shut up, or else I'll slap you!
NT: You dare?!
The Aspie slapped the NT.
NT: Why did you slap me?!
Even though the Aspie is at fault because he slapped the NT, I don't really understand why the NT shouted "Why did you slap me?" as though she didn't expect the Aspie to slap her. I think that when she shouted "You dare?", she was challenging the Aspie to slap her, so the Aspie would definitely slap her. If she didn't want the Aspie to slap her, she shouldn't have shouted " You dare?". So... Any idea what the NT was thinking when she shouted "You dare?"? How did she expect the Aspie to react upon hearing "You dare?"?
I think she didn't take the threat of violence literally. and was shocked and didn't understand why she was slapped.
Let me see if I can make sense of this:
Lots of people may say something like this but have no intention of actually hitting a person as it' could just a way to vent frustration in a heated arguement. If they really mean it, they should clearly state "I am literally going to be violent against you if you continue".
Some people might respond like this to demonstrate they are not afraid and won't be cowed by the previous comment. Regardless, according to the literal statement from the Aspie, the Aspie is going to hit her regardless of what words she might say, because she hasn't followed his instructions to "shut up".
Because she didn't take the Aspie's threat of violence literally and didn't understand why she was slapped.
