Yeah, the topic says it all. I really don't see why.

People always feel intimidated because I point out their grammatical mistakes. My comments online are deleted because I even say something about it. Teachers at school scold me for pointing out his/her or his/her students' mistakes.

I'm not grammatically perfect either, but the ones I correct usually have mistakes with the simplest grammatical concepts, such as, but not limited to:
- apostrophe use
- preposition choice
- subject-verb agreement
- punctuation

I think what upsets me is the fact that I say something about the mistake, but they fail to correct it later. I find I cannot even respect them any longer.

Who else feels the same way? What can I do about this?

Grammar Nazis. *runs*

I hate it but it doesn't bother me. If you can't function in life maybe the OCD part of your Aspieness is getting the better of you and you might need to check it out?

I understand how you feel, but most people don't care about using correct grammar, especially when speaking, so mentioning it just makes them angry. Some people will purposefully not use the grammar of Standard English because they don't want what they say to sound too formal. People dislike speech that sounds more formal than what they are used to. Also, language is a fluid thing, and people sometimes get creative with it to convey certain ideas. There are also English dialects other than Standard English that have different grammar rules, and these dialects sometimes influence the speech patterns of those who otherwise speak Standard English.

Your post reminds me of how enraged I feel when people persist in saying illogical things. I haven't found any way to deal with it except to avoid talking to people like that and to try to understand how other people think. The grammar people use is the result of cultural forces that are too strong for one person or even a group of people to overcome (except if celebrities do it; then most everyone else would follow).

I usually complain more about content in posts than how content, or lack thereof, was grammatically expressed.

It's considered a form of OCD.

You have to keep in mind that the purpose of grammar and punctuation is to convey the writer's meaning. If the meaning is properly conveyed with perhaps a missing period here and an extra comma there, does it really make a difference? No one likes to have their mistakes pointed out to them, specifically minor ones, and thus it's understandable that they might become irritated with you. I think that the best solution is for you to simply learn to relax and let it slide now and then...after all we all make mistakes! I personally try my best to use proper grammar when I write, but I by no means correct others on their grammar usage. Unless, of course, they're working with me on a report ;).

Ok now for a test: Read this without getting upset:
I dun liek wen peo-ple use bed gram, mers either? lol'z

I also hate seeing spelling and grammar errors. I fixed my stepfather's habit of saying "I'm doing good" and my friends know that I will correct their verbal grammatical mistakes. My mother frequently asks me to proofread her papers and I've had a teacher ask me to proofread one of his emails (he had three mistakes, if I remember correctly).

I had a high school mathematics teacher who spelled "Phoenix" as "Pheonix." When I corrected her, she just said she's not an English teacher and didn't bother fixing it. If she had written that in a diary or something for only her to read, it would have been fine, but leaving it up on the board to be ingrained in the minds of the students is not.

Actually, I wouldn't mind being corrected. I think if someone makes a mistake they don't know about, then they should be corrected. Instead of viewing the corrections as "my grammar is better than yours," they should be seen as a more helpful "by the way, you made a mistake there, but good thing you didn't do that in a job application :D."

I doubt anyone is intimidated when you point out their grammatical errors. I'd suggest they'd be annoyed if you kept pointing out their errors and your observations were unwelcome.

Seems a bit harsh.

When you see a grammatical or punctuation error, ignore it.

Bad grammar irks me. It gets in the way of understanding, noticeabily slows down my reading speed and it just looks plain bad. Some people won't even use proper spacing! I don't call them on it, but I wonder if it's just a coincidence or not that people with bad grammar usually have faulty argumentation skills too.

And I just thought they were being dicks. But I still find them annoying. I think they can learn to keep their mouths shut.

Now I can start saying grammar nazis have OCD.

The worst is when the errors are printed--signs, books, posters, etc.
