So, did anybody else sit back and watch the bloodbath on facebook after the election? Boy, that was something else! I posted a few smarmy remarks and unfriended this one belligerant boy that was my sons friend for years because he called me a racist for not voting for Obama this time too, but I mainly watched. Kids not even old enough to vote were calling each other names and unfriending each other and blocking each other and reporting each other. Adults who had been friends for years said terrible things to each other and stopped speaking. It was insane. It was like all of a sudden, as soon as that election was declared people immediately believed that those who voted for the opposite candidate hated them. So they hated right back. Both sides were in it.

There is still some going on this morning. A few people are still yelling and calling names, but it's almost over I hope.

Then again, there are some who think this means the end of the world is right around the corner and they have a list of what is going to happen and for how long before the end. Others think we are being set up for a foreign invasion.

I'm posting this in this forum because half the people on my facebook completely lost their all social skills at least one or two friends. So, did this happen to anybody else?

I'm Canadian, so are the majority of my FB friends. There were a few comments, but nothing scathing. We just sat back and watched.

0_o I just had a few people happy about Obama winning and that's it. I mean, I'm Canadian so it's a little less relevant, but I didn't think facebook wars would erupt from the elections. I disagree with republicans, but I wouldn't insult them because of their beliefs. I think I would only get huffy if it was clear that somebody agreed with the anti-gay part of some republicans, and that's because my sister's gay. Everything else just doesn't faze me much.

No mentions of anything on my friends list posts in the Uk today or yesterday. I think it's just too irrelevant for anyone to think about. The radio did a "feature" on the election - most of the people they were talking to (just a local radio) didn't even know any other candidate names, there were stupid suggestions like "buzz lightyear". Haha.

No, I didn't see a lot on FB that was negative. I never get into political discussions on any of the forums I belong to, because it seems silly to get into them. I neither need to agree with other people's political opinions nor need to have mine agreed with. My husband is a Libertarian and I am a Democrat. He voted the way he wanted, and I voted the way I wanted. Then we went out for dinner to celebrate the end of all this election BS. :D

Mitt Romney voters were angry and embarrassed that he got totally stomped by Obama. Romney supporters thought the election would be close even if he lost, but it wasn't which must have been embarrassing for them after constantly talking trash about the president beforehand.

Nope I didn't see it. I don't really care for the election but I still voted. I think it's pathetic to let politics get in the way and I think it's right to unfriend someone when they insult you for not voting for a president they wanted you to vote for. I lost an internet friend over politics but he chose to throw a tantrum at me and unfriend me and not talk to me anymore all because I didn't want to talk about something anymore and he kept shoving it in my face so I I logged off and then he took it to facebook and I deleted his message without reading it and he blocked me on there. For some reason it just didn't upset me despite being online friends for eight years and we had talked a lot over the years. He was very republican and I try having discussing polities with anyone because once we both have two different views and feelings are starting to take over, it's best to run from the topic so you won't lose the friendship over it because the discussion of politics can ruin friendships due to strong feelings it brings out.

I also don't post politics on Facebook due to this reason. I treat my Facebook like what I do in real life like what I would share in real life with anyone and I don't post on there what I wouldn't want anyone else to see. I don't discuss politics with other people like co workers or neighbors or acquaintances so therefore I don't put it on Facebook. I amazes me that people would do such a thing on there so it's not surprising that it's causing provocative responses and unfriending people and losing friends. It's rare if I am discussing politics with someone like with my parents or online friends. It's even rare to find me in the PPR section.

I once blocked someone on YIM for telling me don't be an idiot if I don't want people getting verbally abusive and this was over me voting for Obama in 2008. He wasn't a nice person anyway so I blocked him over that comment and I don't need friends who will be insulting me.

I don't have many Facebook friends...there were a few celebrating Obama's re-election, but everyone's been civil about it. I haven't had any blood in my feed!

This is one of the big reasons I deactivated my Facebook. Being the hard-core Republican that I am, I knew perfectly well that I would be sending some less-than-charitable remarks to other people, and because I really didn't want to do that, I got rid of my Facebook altogether. I don't agree with anything the Democrats say or do, but I'm not going to be hateful about it. I just try not to discuss politics with people whose beliefs differ from mine.

Most of my FB friends are pretty liberal and super happy that Obama won. There were actually quite a few people though who were like, "I'm moving to England/Canada/somewhere in Europe"

I found that hilarious considering that the US is probably one of the most conservative western first world nations you can find and that the countries they were talking about are more liberal in terms of why they're upset about a democrat president. In fact, Obama himself is pretty conservative.

I dislike those who can't make arguments without resorting to name calling and such.

My Facebook is split pretty evenly between liberals and conservatives.

Everyone was pretty civil.

I don't have Facebook and I didn't vote. Yay for non-participation in society.

Holy crap, there is another person from Ottawa here.

I saw a few comments on my facebook about how people were happy that Obama won, and were dissapointed that we still have to deal with Stephen Harper being our Prime Minister up here.

Still happening with some!! There was a lady that friended me twice and blocked me afterwards and i didnt ever post political things or even click like on anything political. Her online accounts were extremely argumentatively political. There is a professor in my friend list on the other hand that is very different in his political views than me, yet he is super nice and sometimes calls me sister. I will post something within his scope of knowledge and he will address every angle and alternative, he taught me a lot. He is a gentle soul and even starts political debates on his page and just tones everybody down! i admire that!
