Does anyone else have this problem? I always forget to respond to emails and messages, and chatting is awful because I can't multitask, so I take forever to respond to that too when I'm doing other things. Sometimes, I just forget about someone for hours.
It's smaller wonder OkCupid was a failure for me when I used it. I got nice messages from nice girls, and the conversation would last maybe two or three exchanges before they gave up. Also happened when I messaged them first. Once a nice girl messaged me, I responded; then she responded in a few minutes, and I took an entire week to get back to her. None of this is really on purpose. I just forget things. Is this something to work on, or embrace by just staying off the internet and doing more things IRL?
It seems like a lot of people with Aspergers prefer online socializing and are actually good at it. I'm wondering why I am most certainly not.
Yes, online socializing can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, you have MUCH longer to think up responses, and you can go back and edit your messages before you send them. In the case of message boards like this one, you can even delete or edit posts AFTER you make them!
On the other hand, it's a common thing with Asperger's to either ignore or obsess over things. Our focus tends to be very narrow and intense - hence, obsessing over one thing, or a few things, and ignoring everything else. Hence, some very fast responses followed by a week or more without responding. I'm sort of like this on this board - there were periods of months I didn't post at all, and periods I made 5+ posts a day. My overall average is a little over 1.
So I wouldn't consider it at all unusual to go long periods of time without responding online due to something else grabbing 90-100% of your attention for days or weeks...
And just a little rant: this is an Asperger's/autism board, and the spell check underlines Asperger's! You'd think it would recognize that word...

Yes I definately have problems with internet socializing. I have trouble thinking of what I'm going to say, and also I feel like i have no time to talk to someone online. Even when I talk to my best friend online I still can take ages to reply. In fact I havent replied to my friend in about 5 days now.
