My observation...
People who describe themselves as good-tempered are usually more bad-tempered than people who describe themselves as bad-tempered.
People who say that nothing can offend them are usually more easily offended than people who say that certain things do offend them.
People who say that they always forgive and forget usually bear more grudges than people who say that they do bear grudges.
Your thoughts, please?

In most cases that's quite accurate to be honest.

The higher they rank themselves, the more they will look down on those who are lower than them.

Sometimes you run into people who claim they're very positive and non-argumentative yet their words and actions often prove otherwise. I just figure some people, or those specifically, just like the sound of their own voices and can't get enough of it.

No, I do not think so. Almost all people rank themselves as "above average" on the different obviously positive traits.

Yup, it's called Illusory superiority. There's also the bias blind spot, where the average person will rate themselves less susceptible to bias than the average.

Which makes you wonder... can you actually trust your own thoughts about yourself?

I think it's all relative. The answer is neither yes or no, or better yet, yes and no to both. I don't think people naturally fit into a category because we all have our own individual perception. I do think, though, that the higher you praise yourself, the higher the chance your words are speaking from a deeper insecurity. For example, people who say, "I'm a nice person." Who are they trying to convince and why? If they are truly nice, others will notice that for themselves.
