I like New Orleans but it has been years since I was there last.

My niece was there last week. I suggested she go to Galatoires, http://www.galatoires.com/ for lunch on Friday :), but she came back early.

I've never eaten there, but I've heard about it.

The last time I was in New Orleans I was there for a week in the mid 1980s. I had never heard of Galatoires at that time but I have heard many stories about it since then from people who used to live there. To be honest, I suspect that many of them just went once or twice and weren't regulars, but weren't about to admit that fact. After hearing all the stories, if I ever make it to New Orleans again, eating at Galatoires on Friday will be near the top of my must-do list.

My niece didn't sound too interested when I told her she probably needed to show up early to get in line just to get a table.

Since I'm not that fond of crowds, I'd probably just wait until people started to leave about 2 or 3 pm and then go in for a nice, quiet lunch. The idea of sitting at a table "eating lunch" for 3 to 5 hours in a really crowded restaurant really doesn't appeal to me much. But I would be willing to try it once.
