So, here's my story: I tend to have more better luck with making friends with guys (my gender) because, according to my therapist, they tend to be more direct in speaking than women do.

I dunno why, it seems to happen to me to certain women when I want to be friends with them: They ignore me for no good reason! I mean, I have good intentions, but c'mon man! *sigh*

There are a number of threads where people have stated that they're better with the opposite gender, and this includes me.
I would reply that guys are more difficult because they often don't talk at all, whereas girls are better at keeping the conversation going, and they are more self-confident at telling you when they expect you to do something.

I'm not sure if I understand the problem. If making male friends is easier for you, why do you want to make female friends?
Or are you talking about dating?

About dating: Kind of, I just want to start out slow, if you know what I mean.

I try to make an effort to say hello w/o being too obtrusive.

What I am trying to say is: Some girls do not want to be friends with me even if I so much as say hello to them nicely; it just vexes me.

I think that's normal. It's not like everyone has to like you.
(Probably 90% of people would never want to be friends with me.)

But making friends by saying hello is quite hard – especially female friends (worst-case reaction that you have to expect: "Eww, why is this weird guy talking to me?").
In case of all my female friends (that sounds like a lot, but there are only 2, plus a few "semi-friends"), I was introduced to them by other people, or we were classmates or similar.

Try getting a few goof female friends Practice talking to them for a while. After that you'll learn how to talk to girls and start looking for a girlfriend and keep your friends that are girls for advice. Helped me. Out a lot.

Try talking to older women. They quite like the attention because guys don't really hit on them and they don't expect you to. Plus they kind of got over themselves for being so sensitive all those years. Just don't fall in love with the first one. :D

you're not alone dude. im 26 and only had one gf my whole life, every other girl i tried to talk to turned out to be busts. it was either bc i chased/scared them away or they told me i wasnt their type. i agree, to a certain degree, that talking to older girls is better bc of the maturity aspect and they're grown out of the "b***h" stage where they think the world revolves around them. just be careful going that route bc by that stage they're looking for lifetime partners and will go for grown men as opposed to younger guys. i know for sure i dont wanna settle down so just find the cougar who still wants to have fun :D
