Ok so here is the situation,

I supported the University club I was at by going to a volunteer event in order to help raise money for the club. During the time spent out there I got invited to come to a cookout. I said yes

Once I got there I began talking to different members of the club. The subject came up that I do magic and balloon animals. I told the truth in that I said I do a few magical things but I lean more heavily on balloon animals. They asked me if I could make them some balloon animals and I said I would. As I was making the creations I gave some back story on how I got involved with the art. After I got done making two different creations one of them mentioned that I could show them how to make balloon animals. NOW THIS IS WHERE I SCREWED UP!! !!

I said that I could not because those balloons are my money and then somebody mentioned that I don't want the competiton and I said exactly. When I could have just showed them how to make a simple dog and we could have connected.........Lesson learned. I would have made them feel so much better if I would have just taught them something.......my bad...

I think you did fine. they should understand your need to protect your livelihood. if they don't. it's on them, not you. if you really want to, you could always show them how to make a simple dog at the next event. you haven't made an unfixable mistake.

Next time, use a little humour and a wink and they'll just laugh it off.
