I'm a 17 year male who has trouble making friends. As of right now I don't have any close friends.

In paradoxical, zen-like fashion, one of the main skills seems to be undertrying! That is, a number of opportunities and a light touch.

And please don't let your high school be your only social venue. Think also of community theater, local politics, maybe a hiking club, paramedics class, etc.

What I learned about making friends is that you will find them when you are NOT looking. The best advice would be to get busy with something that you enjoy in a social setting. It is when you get busy is when you start meeting people with similar interests.

I found that my best friends were made that way.

Also remember that you may have certain social skills deficits that you may need to work on of which you might be unaware of.

- Clinging to people
-Calling or e-mailing way too many times
-Talking about the same topics
- Lack of eye contact
-Saying hello to someone new before zipping by.

All of these can turn one off.
