Eh.. I get some backlash for talking more than 4 sentences in class. Well I understand that teachers don't want you to hog class time and stuff but it still feels weird.

Talking more than 4 sentences and lecturing at a particular person is a sign of loneliness or something.

Stereotypes are stupid.

Maeko, the practical benefit of learning to be brief and concise in our speech is that we are more likely to get our point across to others since they are more likely to listen. As Shakespeare sagely observed: brevity is the soul of wit. We are at our best when we can express ourselves in as few words as possible.

Our most complex ideas--things that cannot be expressed briefly--should be put in writing.

Unfortunately brevity is difficult for some people. Especially those who grew up with a mother who talks constantly. There's a guy I work with who frustrates me by rambling on and on instead of getting to the point. But he's just trying to be friendly so I don't want to tell him I can't stand befing around him. Instead I usually avoid him unless I have to discuss business.

Bottom line: it's like learning another language to be polite and to communicate efficiently. You should learn how to be concise when you're around other concise people. When you're around chatters you can be yourself.

So... let me get this straight.
A school teacher has a problem with you lecturing people and speaking for more than 4 sentences , and reckons that's a problem ?
Isn't that a bit hypocritical and ironic ?
I mean, what do teachers basically do all day ?

LOL... at any rate, I wouldn't worry about it.
The teachers at the schools which I used to go to were always talking crap, it was best to just overlook a lot of the criticism which they hurled at students.
