There is a lesbian couple down the street. I kind of am friendly with them and actually kind of like them.

Today, I was talking to a lady that just moved into the neighborhood. She told me of a lewd act that one of the women did to her.

How do I act towards the woman that did the lewd act? Do I ignore her now?

It really is a disgusting thing.

act gesture?

you only have one side of the story. what, if anything, did the informant do to solicit the behavior?
do nothing unless you have all the unbiased relevant facts. bthen decide whether it is worth losing a friend.

Yeah, I wouldn't change my feelings about anybody based on someone else's opinion. If you like them, you like them.

I am wondering whether it was a lewd gesture or physical contact. if it was just an obscene gesture, then I would ask what provoked it.
the o. p. made a point of mentioning sexual orientation which suggests to me that either the informant or the o. p. or both have concerns about this. this is why I suspect that the informant provoked the incident.

Was there anything that provoked that "lewd act". Maybe rudeness?
If you know the person in question then you can decide for yourself if that person is ok or an a**hole.
Sounds kinda like someone was trying to ninja disrespect someone you know, or even drive a wedge between you.
Maybe even jealousy was making the gossiper try to cost this person some friends.

Curious, why did you define this couple by their sexual identity? What difference does it make whether or not they're lesbian if only one of the women performed the lewd act? .. and why not mention the lewd act since it's the main point of the story?

How did you act towards her? Same as always. Gossip is gossip and perception is often subjective. If you feel it was completely inappropriate, just be cautious - however, it's hard to believe you'd believe this neighbor of yours since she just moved in. So, be weary of her as well (for now).
