Hey everyone. I have, over the years, been good at making friends from the internet. However, it seems that trying to make friends offline is difficult. I primarily have been using dating sites, sites like Reddit and Meetup, and trying to connect with old high school friends over Facebook. Most of these attempts have led to some success, but very little have led to meeting people in person. So, what are some good ways for a college student to meet people during a relatively uneventful summer?

Have you tried Meetup? I can't post links yet, but it's a website. It's a good way to find groups of people with similar interests, sometimes even really narrowly specific interests!

I second Meetup. And since I can post links, that is linked. Letting you know because you have to put the mouse over the word to tell it's been linked.

@ OnPorpoise

Three ways I use to let the reader know I posted a link :
1° I underline the link ( [u ] ... [ /u] without the spaces) like this ;
2° I put the link between > and < like >this<
3° the simplest and most obvious way is to suggest the reader "click here".

Thanks to Snake_Eyes. I had never heard of Meetup. And usual meeting agencies, where we can find a f**k-friend for the night and do a lot of smalltalk really DON'T interest me. And I mean: not at all! (They actually repel me...) I haven't tried it yet, but at first sight, Meetup seems different.

I mentioned the fact that I do use Meetup... unfortunately A lot of the groups in my area are singles groups for 21 and over or I am just not interested in them.

I get the impression that these work best in big metropolitan areas (in the U.S. or Canada) and not out here in leafy English rural areas.

I did think about going along to that secular humanists meeting though.

A place where secular humanists meet.

Here's an article on it.

I don't think it would be me (I think I would struggle to comprehend a lot of the debates), but it's interesting all the same.

I would seriously consider meetup.com. Even if the group's don't seem perfect for you, you should find there's some potential new friends going, and a chance to make social progress. Developing a social life takes stages, and its important to seek out opportunities for progress, not just try an look for perfection.

Back in early 2010, I joined a site called citysocialising. I was a 27 year old guy looking to meet people my age. Therer weren't that many in their 20's and the average was 40 something, plus the meets ups were in a city a little out my area - had to spend 20-30 mins on the train to get there. So it wasn't perfect - BUT I knew it had potential, because there were some people (not the majority, but some) who were the types I wanted to meet, and it only needs to take one good friend to dramatically change your social life. So go for whatever's going that you feel up to!
