I have kind of a unique situation that I wanted input on. Basically, like many here, I find it really difficult to make friends, so when I do I like to keep them. But over the past 6 years, and for the next several years still, I have been moving every 2-3 years due to academic/professional obligations. I have no problems with that and I like the opportunity to experience different places, but basically I find that I'm just going through "sets" of friends and never really making any close or lasting ones.

In the past 2 places I've lived I made some pretty decent friends that I was able to really get along with. We weren't super-close, but we did get together every once in a while and they were genuinely nice people. But then, I move, and now we all just send the obligatory texts or facebook messages every month or so to keep up with what's going on in our lives, but we're too spread out geographically for much else.

I guess what I'm wondering is, if anyone else has been in a similar situation where you have to move around frequently, and if so, how do you deal with it? Like I said I really enjoy moving around from other standpoints and I love what I do, but it has been making it far more difficult than it already is to develop any sort of close or lasting relationships with others.
