I venture downtown a lot for school. But now I am living in the downtown area. I thought to myself, well maybe this will be a cool opportunity to meet some great people--even some women I suppose.

Well it was on Saturday night. I went walking around downtown. I was checking out places I never been to. I felt so outta place and awkward. There were sports bars, cafes, and some pubs around. But no club joints. And every place was filled with people who were with their families or with their significant other. Everyone had their own circle. I have no friends that go out to places like I do. So I called it a night and went back home. I gotta be on the lookout for some social events my school is hosting or something.

I'm not sure everyone needs to look for a "Night Life" hangout place. Coffee shops seem to favor small groups or even loners with their laptops on Wifi.

Also, sometimes places like coffee shops have a cork board listing meetups.

I am more doubtful about bars and pubs. They never worked for me. I just sat there eating a bar burger and drinking beer.

Either way, I would personally avoid any place that advertises Live Music. I can't understand a damn thing any body says in an environment like that.

I don't know what city you are in, but in my experience, downtown areas are not a great place after business hours. Most that I have seen are mostly for employment, and little else. Some are unsafe. I'm a bit surprised you can walk around at night (there are plenty of safe downtowns, of course, but more dangerous ones).

You should see if there is activity after hours outside a downtown. I like the idea of coffee shops. I have found in the past that neighborhoods with a countercultural vibe are pleasant, although I'm pretty mainstream myself.

Sounds like downtown Seattle. Questionable place to walk around by yourself at night.

I stay in west Michigan. I am used to walking downtown you just gotta be very well aware of your surroundings. I'll go and look at some meetings at those coffee shops. I'm not gonna lie I thought about going to a club instead because I knew it would be single people there and you could form a social circle. But maybe not.
