sortof touching on a thread i made but i thought it deserved its own topic.

does anybody here find that while you cant maintain social ties with non family, give it a tie of blood and you're "normal" and accepted.

i dont know how to break out of my family group but within my own family im not actually that unsociable or misunderstood or anything.

Its like socialising with non family is this super impossible non natural thing, where just to go round someone elses house and observe their family life is like stepping onto a new planet filled with weird smells and behaviour.

But then socialising with family is no problem whatsoever. people allow me leeway, people are happy to see me when i turn up, people are interested and have time for me.

Growing up and it was nice because having a large family with lots of cousins meant i got a bit of a buffer zone and i never really felt my aspiness until i became an adult and was expected to mix with other people

Do you have step-relatives? They're always a good way of 'extending' the family circle.

What I have found is that while I can't socialize well with most people, there are some who I can socialize with. For me, it's a matter of finding them.

not really looking for a solution, just hoping for experience sharing/interesting stories from the people that use this forum. Thanks for the attempt though :).

Oh fair enough. I am still largely tied to my family (mum and dad divorced, so step parents on both sides). I'm pretty independent of them though, although I have a great relationship with my sister, not that any of that does me much good. I don't think anyone ever 'leaves' their family -- NT/AS whatever. This is based on personal observation -- once they've got you, they've got you for life!

I am the opposite. I find most of my family impossible to socialise with. I hardly see them now which is a relief but I find them to be completely different to me in every possible way.

Although they are all very happy to see me and would like it if I were more sociable, I really do not have any desire to spend any time with my family..close or extended.
