OK this happens to me a lot, not sure if I have aspergers or not but I wanted to know if this is a typical experience. I'll be having a wonderful day, mood is good I'm ready to take on the world, birds are singing blah blah blah etc... and then someone will stop and ask me "why do you look so serious??"
Is everything OK? SMILE! it can't be THAT bad. And I'm like... huh? WTF are you talking about?
I've been fired from two jobs so far due to "lack of enthusiasm" which I don't really understand since I feel I worked extremely hard, never brought my problems to work, was always very honest etc. Why do people always have to tell me how I'm supposed to look??

Common AS experience, people expect their employees to employ fake smiles left and right. People don't really care how good of a worker you are if you're not a social butterfly.

I get that from a lot of people, as well. They act as though people are supposed to smile, every second of the day. If they see someone who isn't smiling, who usually happens to be me, they ask me what's wrong and why don't I smile. They also tell me, that I'm supposed to be happy. That really drives me up the wall.

Probably not the most constructive response, but ultimately highly satisfying...

I've had people (like construction workers, for example) say, "Hey, baby, smile!" when I'm just walking along, minding my own business. I shoot them the finger, and then I smile. They're always left gobsmacked.

I used to get this back when I worked to the point it really got on my nerves. At least people realized after a few months its just how I am.

last time someone pulled this on me I just simply stated the following in a very..... sarcastic and meanspirited way.

"Id rather show my real self instead of live behind a f*****g illusion like you and the rest of society." Said person called me a nutcase and called the cops saying I was a threat n s**t. Said idiot who called then got arrested for false police reports XD

story of my life. my entire family hates me because i never smile. I get it so much it really just pisses me off now when someone says it, and once they do it just makes it awkward because they don't know why i am mad. some have said i look like I'm about to kill someone when i feel pretty normal or even happy. I have been fired from jobs entirely because my co workers hated me.

Its funny to read this because just the other day I read a thread on personality café where the question was why INFP's often appear so serious even when they are supposedly happy.

The last job I had I was constantly told to smile at people. Even if I smiled they just told me to do it bigger.

People always ask why I look mad/sad/whatever. It hurts to do a big goofy smile, and IMO it looks creepy to walk around with a gigantic grin on your face 24/7.

I thought people thought I wasn't happy just because I don't smile much, but just last night someone who couldn't see me said I sounded unhappy, so today I've been not only working on smiling more but also trying to figure out how to sound happy.

Just for the sake of argument, lets say I wasn't happy or whatever, isn't that my right as an individual to feel and be as I am? I mean seriously, does our society hold a monopoly on what isn't appropriate for a single human being to ...be?

I have seriously thought of taking this to a new.... height with an experiment I'd like to call "always happy". No matter what anyone says or does I'll just smile and nod and say "how wonderful!"

example:
"I'd like to return this please"
me: smiles; "How wonderful!"
ummm.. ok the reason is it doesn't fit...
me: "How wonderful!" ;even bigger smile
uhh...so yea do I have to sign something?
me: "yes...isn't it WONDERFUL?!" ;even BIGGER smile
...yea... so I'm just gunna ummm... leave and come back when the manager is here...
me: "How wonderful!" ;even BIGGER SMILE :D
umm...yea so I'll be... going... now..
me: "HOW WONDERFUL!!" ;HUGE SMILE

Continue responses with other daily "episodes"...someone gets a speeding ticket...someones dog dies... we have to stay after to do inventory at work etc...

I'm taking bets on how long it'll take before I either get smacked or committed.
Bets start at $5.

Is playing games with "NT's" an "asperger" trait or am I just a psychopath in disguise??

Never smiled since I find it embarrassing and strange...But whenever someone tells me to smile,it stress me up and kind of annoys...Who are you to command?

I just didn't "learned" how to do it,it didn't came by instinct.

Actually,I find smiling people have sometimes a deranged expression (the face I mean, sorry if it offended you)...But seriously, what's up with people smiling randomly? It makes me really uncomfortable...

I have a wide range of expression, but I just can't smile right because me teeth aren't straight(Whenever I TRY to smile, they look so wrong).

I need braces...Maybe that'll help?

i would always get this from a girl in high school. i never understood it at the time.
why is it that i have to smile all the time? i mean i walk around and go to work and see coworkers and customers not be smiling. i still feel i have to force the smile on my face at various times/situations when i simply dont see the need for it.

I can't smile on command either. Makes taking pictures a real chore. Mom's like, "oh, once you lose weight you'll have more confidence so you'll smile better." What a load of crap. I can smile naturally, just not for photos. D:

Lots of people ask me what's wrong when I'm not in a bad mood because they think I look upset. When people are really annoying about it I tell em that I don't believe in smiling unless I have a rezone to & trying to impress others with my facial expressions is NOT it. I know people judge me by my expressions but I do not agree with it so I am dedicating my life to changing that standard.
