I had a discussion with a neighbor last night about losing a friend and how I lost that relationship. She kept wanting to talk over me about how this friend and I had a lesbian relationship and that we were both having an affair while she was married to the opposite sex.

She also insisted that she thought that she knew better than I and that relationship meant that relationship=intimacy. \

What do you think it means?

Well the word "relationship" actually has many, varied applications and meanings depending on the context. "Relationship" can indeed refer to a physically intimate relationship between people who are sexual together, lovers, sexual or marriage or dating partners, etc.

But one can also use the word "relationship" in a wider sense -- "my relationships with my co-workers have become difficult," or "The nature of my relationship with my parents has changed since I moved out," or even relationships to animals -- Dian Fossey could be described as having formed relationships with the wild gorillas she was studying, earning their trust and a certain understanding.

It's a word that can be applied to not just sexual situations; so when someone uses it in a way that's ambiguous or that you question, sometimes it's good to ask for clarification.

I thought so but I was confused and wanted to get some other opinions on the matter. She said some pretty stupid things last night even though she is nice enough. I felt like she was pretty callous and arrogant on how I should live my life right?

Luckily she is moving out so I will not have to associate with her anymore. She's trouble.
