There aren't many people I actually like, and there are even fewer for whom I feel genuine affection. A lot of the time people just get on my nerves, and I get sick of having to imitate their social mannerisms even though by now that's something I do automatically. Everyone's perfectly nice to me, it's just that they're...there and social, and that bothers me. Argh.

I know what you mean. I feel guilty about not liking people because they typically don't really do anything against me. They may ignore me, not be close to me (most people i know are just good aquaintences, hard to call people friends), but they don't really do anything mean. I don't really have a good reason to dislike people in general. But nevertheless they bother me.

Can you give specific examples why? There are tons of people out there, some friendly some as*holes, just work on being able to adapt to different social environments. Just because Person X always voices his opinion and insists on being right doesnt mean that you cant have a conversation with him, or while hes in a group. Of course, it makes things a bit more difficult but you have got to work on voicing your opinion too, but in a non aggressive, mean, sort of way. Usually, Person X would follow suit as well. Then you can come to some sort of middle ground.

The trouble is that it's nothing so specific as disliking people for their opinions or whatnot. There are just lots of people I don't like being around, for no particular reason. Sometimes I think all my affection was given to my first friends and I have none left for any new friends.

somebody, I can't remember who it was, once said, "I love the human race, it's just people that I can't stand". I feel like that too. I have generalized feelings of benevolence towards people, I want to help people and be nice to them, but when I encounter living breathing homo sapienses, I mostly find they are a pain in the neck and I prefer to avoid them.

Someone once told me to think the worst about people when you meet them and you usually be right. Now, I don't know if he was kidding but I'm starting to hate people in advance at work. It saves time.
On a more serious note, people do the stupiest things to each other, its a wonder that relationships even work. Everyone is out for themselves. Very few can say they have a real freind. J.C.

I find that sometimes, often it's reduced me to tears seeing people that have only known somoene for a week knowing someone i've known for ages better than me.

Thinking of my pets helps.

I tell my friends "There are probably fewer than ten people in the world whom I actively like, and you are among that number." One of them answered "Cool! It's like the world's most exclusive club!"

Yeah, I'm not that fond of the seething masses of humanity either. For the most part there's no real dislike - I just have no interest in interacting with them. As a result their presence annoys me when I'd rather be alone. When I was in school, for a few years I was a part of this little clique of three other nerdy girls, and I'd have called them my best friends, but even then there were days at a time when I just did not want to interact with them and got quite cross when they insisted on talking to me.

I feel the opposite. I hate humanity, but see good in most people, even if I have trouble dealing with them.
