There's a girl who i want to try becoming friends with, and we're both in the 9th grade, and all of middle school except some of the 8th grade we were in the same school, and after that we saw each other at the Turkish cultural center. I thought she hated me, because she would always seem annoyed or irritated by me, but her mom said she actually thought highly of me and would always talk praisingly of me, and felt sorry for me because the kids were treating me bad. This confuses me... but anway, our Turkish cultural center is having an opening at a new building, and everyone will be there. I don't know how to approach her, such as how to make small talk. And I don't know if she'll even want to talk to me. :(

Just go up to her and say "hi, what have you been up to recently?," or something like that. But don't sound desperate. I wouldn't approach her if she's with a group of people, unless one of them is your friend.

Talk about common interests. Don't mention that you like her.

Or share stories of a particular teacher you both knew from one class or another. :)
