Last week I informed you all about my lab partner and how I failed the social reciprocity test.

Well this week I was bound and determined to make up for my gaffe last week.

And well I think I somewhat succeeded. Before class he came and sat next to me like he usually does.

"So.. How's your afternoon"

"Fine"

I then remembered the reciprocity factor and followed up.

"So... Nice day outside, we should have class outside"

I made it a point to try and keep the conversation going until the start of class, but I ran out of ideas with five minutes left.

So I waited till after class to try again. Since he would be walking the same way I was, I would have another five minutes to try and converse. He was slow packing his backpack up so I busied myself by asking my professor a question until he was ready to go. I timed it out perfectly and we both left at the same time.

I tried to resume where I left off before class. I made it a point to be as reciprocal as possible and was able to keep conversation going until I broke it off to cross the street to go eat.

In all we discussed

- Class schedules for next semester
- Theft of backpacks at the testing center
- The nice weather we're having right now (78 degrees today)

However again I didn't pick up on an open ended question he asked me, but that masked up by my will to be reciprocal.

For all that it was worth, being the instigator of conversation felt strange and awkward. I don't know if I performed like an NT would. What do you guys think?

Well if he usually sits next to you, you can build something there, it's easier. Yay for Scoots! good stuff.

Hmmm? I will say yay Scoots, and wonder
if he is a friend. Postperson may have hit
this dead on like a hammer to a nail. The fact
that he will usually sit with you is good, Is it
class only? recreational possibly? Eitherway
is good.

Hmmmm?
Ghosthunter.

P.S....Are there others that might qualify as
social, or friendship potential in your school?

That is SO excellent, Scoots! Really, it sounds like you did a fine job!

Any skill feels awkward when we first practice it but it sounds like you did a wonderful job of it.

Glad to hear it, Scoots :) .

I understand what you mean, keeping up my side of the conversation is difficult for me at times, too. But from your description, it sounds like you did just fine :) . You should also remember, NTs don't always get everything right, either, so don't worry about little slip-ups too much.

Hi Scoots, I think you did it well.
Even NTs occasionnally miss an open question.

Hoorah for success :D

Well done for striking up a conversation. I know that can be very hard, so I think you did really well.

You're a bright and friendly person Scoots. This guy will be lucky to have someone as thoughtful as you as a friend.

Well done mate on your progress so far.
