So, I was surfing around for information about koalas. You know, random stuff. I found this description http://www.bighoneydog.com/2010/01/lone ... -sanctuary about the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Australia:

Quote:
Although koalas look very cute and cuddly, they actually have very sharp teeth and claws and can be quite grumpy! :D

(Hsin-Yi says: Actually, we were surprised to see a lot of koalas being carried around and cuddled by the keepers in the sanctuary and you could even get your photo taken cuddling a koala if you wanted to (for a big fee!). Apparently, ?koala cuddling? has been banned in NSW but is still allowed in Queensland. However, they can only be cuddled for 30mins per day max and they must get every 4th day off! :P The cuddling-ban in NSW is quite controversial as they have found that a koala?s temperament is determined by how they are raised ? so those raised in captivity often seem to expect a cuddle!)

So, "they can only be cuddled for 30mins per day max and they must get every 4th day off." Apparently, koalas have Asperger's Syndrome or other Autism Spectrum Disorders. :D

I am herewith adopting my own Koala Rule of Cuddling (or other socializing); thirty minutes a day and every fourth day off. Hey, it works for them!

30 minutes is a long time to be cuddled.
I can understand why the koalas get stressed out.
I follow the three second rule with humans.
Sometimes that's too long.
Koalas are cute though.

As an Australian who has met a few koalas, I'm a bit surprised at how people thing they are so amazing and cute. Granted, they do look sort of fluffy and sweet, but actually they are one of the most boring, not to mention smelly, animals around. They are about as energetic as a sloth and nowhere near as cute. They just sit in their tree, eat eucalyptus leaves, and sleep. They make no noise, except sometimes when they move to a new tree, the males "sing" loudly to announce their possession of said tree. They are also very unintelligent, because their food isn't nutritious enough to power a normal brain.

Koalas exhibit Koala behavior not human behavior.

You can bread a rat to be autistic like, but when you have a species that behavior behaves in a certain way, then it is not significant enough in of itself to compare to human ASD.

In sort these thread whilst cute, aren't that compelling.

The biggest problem with Kolals is chlamydia threatening populations.

I don't think Koala cuddling is banned in NSW, since they let people do it at the Sydney Wildlife Park.

I held a koala once. It was heavily muscled, with sharp claws, and smelled somewhat of urine.
It may have been a heavily drugged drop bear, I don't know.

If Koala psychologists existed, they would believe that those of their species who feel compelled to socialize with others would have Usbanger's Disorder.

Those who choose to be to themselves would be neurotypical.
