My social life needs help. Ideas?

I currently live in central Mass where I have zero social ties. It seems like the first thing to do in suburban MetroWest is to join some sort of civic group or fraternity. I'm not keen on trying too hard to ingratiate myself into a group of elitists or snobs. Meetup.com has been a bust: I'm not gay or a hipster.

Suggestions for AS-friendly groups or social communities in Greater Boston?
