There's no particular place you'll find gamers, gamers can be anybody with consoles or computers. You'll usually find gamers at home sitting on their couch or computer chair...

gamers usually hang out on gaming forums. Or they meet through geeky places.

There are heaps of gaming forums around... perhaps you could find some local ones.

And how could I meet them? I hate Aussie gaming forums though, as I get picked on!!

You have to be very careful about what you say on gaming forums if you're a newbie. Gamers are critical people. I personally don't know why you'd want to get to know them.. they're the bitchiest people i've ever met.
