I moved back to my hometown fairly recently, so I started going to my usual café a few nights a week again. However, there's a relatively new hire who really sucks.

Everytime I sit outside, he ends up taking everyone's tables up to half an hour before the place closes (I always stay until closing). In the past, whoever had the responsibility of taking the tables would just take the empty tables and leave mine be. I think it's because he really doesn't want to be there, and wants to get out ASAP every night.

Plus, he's just extremely unfriendly. I miss hearing "Hey, the usual?" It's one of the reasons I liked this place so much. The experience is just better when you feel like a regular.

However, I don't really want to bring up this table issue with him. He looks like an ex-con or something. I'm afraid he'd break my kneecaps in the parking lot if I dared to speak up. I do know someone from college who works here, but I'm afraid to say anything to her on the off chance that they're friends.

Any suggestions?

If you are a customer, and you decide to sit there right untill closing, then he should respect that. He's not making money on throwing people out I assume, but by serving them. Its only in the stores best interrest to keep you as a regulair.
If you don't want to take it up with him, then try and perhaps write a letter/mail to the manager of the store. A manager should be able to keep a professional view on his employees, and he would properbly be happy to get some feedback on his employees :) When/if you write the letter, remember to praise the café, so he doesnt think its just a whiny letter ^^
Atleast thats a suggestion of mine, good luck with it and feel free to post an update on how it goes, its always nice to know ^^

I agree with the letter idea.

Is this guy taking your table and chair while you're sitting there, or do you get there after all the tables have been taken up? That would bother me to no end.
