What sort of friends are you after? Context friends, close friends, occasional friends..?

Many clubs like sports, or anything with a formal program, are suitable for content friends and acquaintances. Some may go to informal drinks afterwards, however a lot of these people aren't going there to make friends out of that context. However it can be useful for developing social skills.

If you want friends out of a set context eventually, then you need to pick something that is more informal, where you can converse. Social groups and interest groups for example.

Close friends are a numbers game, which not something that you rush. I don't have too many of them, and it depends how many you really need. If any.

I also suggest volunteering.

Play to your advantages, so smaller groups might be more suitable.
