Does anyone else have a problem with your expression looking like a deer in headlights? 8O I've read a few threads where people wonder if they are ugly, because they constantly notice others staring at them. I used to feel the same way. I thought the person I was seeing in the mirror (a fairly normal woman) must be an illusion, because people always seemed to be looking at me strangely. It got to the point where I was almost agoraphobic, because I thought I must be a hideous monster. I started taking note of how I was looking when I got the most stares or strange responses. I noticed that I was probably looking deathly scared, even though I wasn't necessarily always feeling that way. It's the worst when I find myself doing this at the beginning of a conversation. An NT would naturally be confused by such a look when they're just looking to engage in relaxing chit chat. No wonder they start to feel uncomfortable around me. Walking around that way in a grocery store can make people think you're insane. I've been able to change this look sometimes, if I catch myself.

I know that I do this because my Mom and a few friends are always telling me that I have that expression sometimes.

This is too funny that you should mention this. My dad actually says that when he picks me up from school I look like a deer caught in the headlights. When I'm sitting alone at lunch during break people I've never met before come up to me and ask me if I'm okay. One time a boy came up to me and said I looked as if I'd just seen a ghost. It is frustrating since I'll just be sitting there thinking about nothing in particular and yet I look like I am scared.

I either look like a deer in the headlights; my expression typically used when feeling some sort of emotion, or I look depressed or bored, which is my 'default' expression. No matter what, I look weird.

I don't think I have that. It's more of a blank there's nobody home look.

I looked in the mirror and I noticed that sometimes my eyes are really open widely. I think that when if I get excited when I am talking that's how my eyes get.

YES YES YES YES YES :!:
For my this is one of the worst parts. People are always saying "deer in headlines" or "just seen a ghost". Sometimes its just like a stunned or blank look. It happened today two or three times. I was doing the smalltalk thing at work, then right in the middle, I just totally ran out of anything to say, and shot back these dumb blank looks.

For me THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING.

I've always described it as more of a "frontal lobotomy look."
