Societal double standards

The amount of double think exercised by people is quite troubling. There are so manythings which are unilaterally agreed to be wrong but under the right conditions this rejection disappears. I dont think I need to give examples but im interested in how to navigate these and how to deal with them when they come up.

Often I find that on an individual level double think is a result of the brain trying to preserve some delusion that it believes is critical to the ego. In my experience we humans will do anything to preserve our identity/ego.

How do you point this out to people? For instance though most people in the UK aren't overtly racist there is still a national hatred of "travelers". Its quite acceptable to scapegoat the community . When I point out that this is racist im laughed at. It seems that all it takes for groups to abandon logic is a little consensus.

It would be ok if people were aware of it but even after pointing out the flaws in their moral reasoning they maintain their position. Is it even worth trying or is it masochism to even attempt it?

I think it's futile. When deciding whom to agree or disagree with, people usually care only about the social consequences of the choice. What matters is what group they belong to and whom they can afford to alienate or ostracize. They don't give a s**t about the actual point being agreed or disagreed on. Often they won't even bother to conceal the fact that they didn't listen to you before deciding to disagree with you, or will distort your words into something opposite to what you were saying and defend your actual point, but still claiming to disagree with you.
