My dad told me once...........

Don't engage or try and be friendly with bouncers at clubs or bars because you will get your face recognised.

Can you explain to me in more depth what he means by "get your face recognised?

Do you mean get punched in the face or get banned out of the blue for no reason?

If they know you:

If you act like an as*hole, you're more likely to get thrown out, on your butt, out into the street.

I think the point he was getting at was it is better to be anonymous in that situation. A bouncer is likely to be suspicious of someone who tries to be chummy because a bouncer's role is based on intimidation. Anybody who is friendly is therefore not intimidated. If you are not intimidated, you are more likely (in the bouncer's mind) to be a trouble maker. Bouncers are not necessarily the cream of the crop when it comes to people skills and emotional intelligence. Any unnecessary interaction makes it more difficult for them to perform their function. Just think of them as incapable of multi-tasking. They can't switch back and forth between friend mode and bad ass.

You follow?

Dependent on the bar he may also have literally meant facial recognition software. Get pegged on that can apparently put a dent in your nightlife.

Why'd you get punched in the face or banned by being friendly to the bouncers? I thought they were supposed to help keep things getting out of hand not contribute to it. I'd think they prefer if people are friendly rather than all apprehensive of them because of associating them with security as I imagine that would be awkward.

But if you don't then they may be more inclined to help you out if someones being an as*hole to you, I'd think being an a**hole to the bouncers would be much more problematic than being friendly to them and maintaining decent behavior.

In this scenario, the person is being an as*hole in general. Hassling people.

If you are known as someone who hassles people, then you become known to the bouncers. You actions, as a result, will get you kicked out quicker.

Oh I agree with that, but not sure how a typical bar/club goer being friendly to the bouncer and not going out of their way to cause trouble or hassle people would cause them to kick them out. The OP does not specify someone who hassles people and than tries to be friendly to the bouncers....of course a scumbag like that isn't going to be well liked by the bouncers.
