I went to camp about four years ago. I didn't make any new friends, though I'm sure my appearance and social behavior had something to do with it. I was in the midst of a "goth" phase and people assumed I worshipped the devil from my appearance. It wasn't a plesant experience.

I've gone to one for a long time. It's a performing arts family camp, and I don't like everyone there, but the atmosphere is so peaceful and the people so accepting that it doesn't matter. It's not your typical "white people" summer camp--many of the classes are of music and performance arts done by Asian, African, or Latino cultures. It's one of the few places where I've seen so much acceptance of cultural diversity--living in the SF bay area, I've seen plenty of cultural diversity, but it's always so segregated and with subtle tension. The camp I go to is special because it just isn't like that. Yeah, I'm the only goth there, but for once people don't hate me for it.

Been to summer camp (church-run) ones when I was 7-14 and honestly didn't really like it.
