So far, I only found books for partners and parents, and while some of them have helpful information, I would hesitate to give them to a friend because I just don't think you should expect the same dedication from a friend than from a wife or husband.

I often end up avoiding or breaking potential friendships because I'm afraid of being 'too much to handle'. I tried to just keep that in mind and try to work against my own desires for space and control and be more 'spontaneous' and 'giving space', but somehow that often ends up in the other extreme of me finding myself developing some weird 'martyr complex' and it freaks me out a bit. Often enough it also ends up with someone starting to interpret my intentions as kind of romantic or sexual or masochistic while I really just want some kind of friend, not acquaintance, so I really don't think books designed to help partners or parents would help there.

Any suggestions?
