I remember 8 years ago I was at a friends 18th birthday house party. When I was in the party gazebo I picked up this big plastic bottle of coca cola and I noticed there was a slug on it. I freaked out a little bit and pointed out the slug to this guy standing next to me and he got annoyed with me. From what I remember he scowled at me and said "what"? He looked at me like I was a nutcase.

I was just intending to be funny really but do you think the guy was being an as*hole judging from his reaction towards me?

The guy was part of my large friendship group at college. He went to my junior school as well but I never really spoke to him.

All he said was "what?" in what sounds like an irritated manner. Maybe it could be considered rude, but I'd hardly call it unfair. Maybe there was just a misunderstanding.

Spoke to him a few months after that incident and that time when we talked he actually seemed friendly towards me :)

If you were making a joke, he probably didn't understand it and thought you were serious about being afraid of a slug or something. So, he might have said "what?" as in short for "What's the big deal? It's a slug!" I wouldn't take offense from this. It might have made you feel silly, but that's all.

It happened like eight years ago. How much impact does it have on your life NOW?

He's an introspective guy!

Jamesy How much did you freak out over the slug?
