Anyone have a hard time driving because of AS? Where missing turns and getting lost are the least of your worries. Killing yourself or another is something what you truly need worry about? 8O

Kind of. I can drive ok but I have to concentrate really hard to do so. Normal roads are all right but motorways leave me exhausted.

Mind you, I DO drive like a loon :D

Yeah. I suck at driving. It took me four tries to get my license. I especially suck at maneuverability. I had to go back for extra lessons before the driving instructor would even sign my papers so I'd be able to take the driving test for my license. :(
I still can barely even back up straight enough to park. Sometimes it takes me several tries to even get in a parking space, so I always try to find one away from other cars. It's embarrassing, really.
I don't know if it actually has anything to do with AS though.

I'm a pretty good driver and I try to be a really safe driver but damn if I can concentrate. It's so hard to get past my thoughts if I'm the least bit troubled or excited. I try to focus. I think about everything I need to pay attention to but still won't pay attention because I'm still wrapped up in my thoughts of what to pay attention to. I don't see cars. Stop at green lights. Start going at red lights thinking it was a stop sign or something. Turn the wrong way on one ways.

I consider myself a good, attentive driver. And I like to curse at bad drivers.

I don't enjoy driving as much as I used to.

Yeah I don't drive. The thing that gets me is how much societal pressure is placed on those over 18 who don't drive - like I'm a child or something because I don't zoom around everywhere.

To reiterate: na…I’m good with motor stuff; it’s the written test that "supposedly" keeps me walking. Not that I'd drive anyway...my feet work. When people give you the: '...independence and freedom, ...' drivel; they haven't put enough thought into their conclusion….

I got friends that don't drive either. I wish cars didn't exist but they do so I will use them.

I can't drive anyway because I'm epileptic - but given my utter inability to master riding a bike (the co-ordination needed to keep the pedals going is something I never quite managed to muster), I suspect trying to control several tonnes of speeding metal is probably not the wisest of ideas.

Am not confirmed Aspie, but early on I had issues learning what to pay attention to. I figure that's probably about the same with any young driver though... But now, I think I'm quite good *knock on wood*.

Even though my car is presently in the bodyshop... it wasn't my fault!
