Something that I have been struggling with as of late is making friends with people who are under 40. I am a person who is involved in a number of things in my community. I regularly go to church, I am active in the local political scene. I also attend concerts, theater and lecture events as well. But it has been hard for me to meet people in the under 40 age demographic, even though the tried and true advice states that this is how you make friends. I always seem to only meet the retirement aged crowd in these venues.

Maybe I am not doing something right here. Any advice?

Your technique isn't wrong, like you said, this is the tried and true way.

The problem is the areas you are going to.
Politics and church aren't all that popular with sub-40s.
