I ordered a dell laptop a couple of weeks back. They said it would ship on the 23rd, I called on the 23rd and they said it was delayed. But for my trouble, they would ship it out next day air. I got an eamil from they saying it would be shipping out the 26th. I check the UPS tracking number and find out it was shipped out ground, going to get it on the 28. Thats not next day air. I call Dell and they said they did not have time to change it because it shipped out so soon after they said they would change it. They basically said tough luck.
Why do companies get away with lieing to customers like this? If I did that at my job I would be fired. I put in a complant with the BBB.

Dell is getting crappier the longer they're in business. Where I work, we just had 4 laptop hardrives completely crash in a span of 6 months. That's not normal.

I'm very unhappy about my dell laptop.

It broke about 8 months after I bought it, at which point they repaired it (no problems)

Then, it broke again a week later.

I sent it back in, and they claimed they wouldn't repair it because I had poured soda on it.

...and I don't even drink soda!

After a few weeks I finally got them to repair it, but that left me without a laptop during that time.

Dell's marketing system reminds me of "Gateway" remember the people with the boxes with the cow prints.

After a while, they didn't honour any of their warranty. And then they didn't honour any of their sales either. People were paying for stuff and not getting it. And then gateway went belly up in Australia.

We had a lot of problems getting Toshiba to fix a laptop - it took them six months but eventually they did it. They contracted with a local laptop repairer - so that was easier to deal with. For a hardware error, they initially suggested re-installing the O/S. Which would have formatted the hard drive and lost all the data.

Eventually they had to replace the hard drive and the motherboard and some other stuff - so much for a re-install fixing anything. Even the computer knew it had a hardware malfunction.

Dell is well known for crap service, when something is so cheap you have to think where they cut the costs, in their case, customer service and quality. IBM/Lenovo laptops are usually regarded as the best available but by god you will pay for it. I went for HP as a reasonable mix in the end, I also go for the business range as they are usually a bit better than the home range.

I just got a dell laptop last week. It's worked fine so far, and the warranty I bought will cover just about any possible damage, including accidents. I hope to be able to use it for at least the four years covered by the warranty.

I've had nothing but problems with Dell. I bought a laptop with a COMPLETECARE PROTECTION PLAN and after giving me a LOT of trouble about replacing it (which is what the plan is ANYWAY) they continued to replace my laptop with used laptops that were broken. Every time, and I mean every time I called Dell I continued to get Indian guys who barely spoke English, had no clue what I was saying at any given point, and hung up on me constantly (and I don't lose my temper on the phone either.) I bought an Apple and have never looked back. I will be buying macs the rest of my life and I strongly recommend no one ever buy a Dell. Customer service has gone horribly downhill and doesn't look to ever be improving.

Yeah, you better hope Jobs blesses your purchase. I've got two powerbooks, one spent 8 months in the repair shop, the other had a logic board failure in a year and a half's time. Two laptops, two logic board failures, one hard drive failure. Oh, and my 12" powerbook still beeps randomly, like once every month now, though it was at once every hour a few months ago.
