the pluses: Christians can be good friends

the minuses: they want you to believe in Jesus.

Some (two or three) of the Christians I've known were only good friends because they consciously believed they wanted to be good people. I think I would rather be friends with someone who was naturally a nice person and was good to me because they actually liked me, deep down. That being said, I have had a couple of friends who are deeply religious Christians, but they've never said boo about me accepting Jesus, and I don't think they ever would. If they had, we wouldn't have been friends!

My Evangelical Christian friends were not too pleased when I became an atheist, as I had been an Evangelical Christian.

Not an easy move, but a necessary one.
Question is, should I have lied a bit more and kept more friends?
But that's not my way of doing things.

I don't see any problem with it, as long as they don't start foisting their religion (and associated literature) where it is not wanted. If they persist, they get dropped. Simple as that.

My best friend and bandmate went to Christian school and his father is the pastor of a local church. He has never tried to convert me. The best part about having him around is that he can easily explain christianinty-related questions to better my understanding of the world.

It also makes for riveting philosophical conversation.

Yeah. Associated literature such as the Watchtower and Awake. Or Dianetics, from the Church of Scientology. Well they call themselves a church but they aren't.

That was my personal experience before I actually became a Christian. But I can say since becoming a Christian - I am a member of a Church of Scotland - it has proved to be the only place I have met real friends. That isn't by chance.

I know there must be good Christians out there, but I have only had bad experiences and it's led me to be very scared and wary of them. I don't like feeling that way about a particular group of people. Before these things happened, I was very open.

This is an interesting topic. At uni the only people I really have got to know are Christians because I've been to some 'tea parties' and although I don't like social things they've been ok because everyone was very nice and didn't seem to care that I was weird. But they do want you to believe in God and all the Christian beliefs and I don't. So then I conclude maybe that's just why they're nice to me but that depresses me because I hope they actually think I'm an ok person to have around.

Another Minus: Evangelical Christians are egoists and will brainwash you to believe in God

i might be able to hang out with christians if they didnt look down on me all the time

Oh, we've established the STFU about their god clause. Things work perfect for us.

You forgot the other minus: Evangelical Christians are the most mindless people on the planet, and most of them don't believe in global warming or dinosaurs because those things aren't in the Bible. They also indoctrinate their children so they'll grow up to be nothing more than blind, bible-beating imbecils who vote total incompetants into political offices. They're huge hypocrites and they refuse to accept other's opinions. I hope one day they all get hit by trains. Trains filled with bees.

If you're going to call them imbeciles, spell imbeciles correctly. You call them hypocrites, do you accept their opinions? Even tolerate them?

So true.

Well, thanks. (See my earlier post)
I didn't suddenly acquire a mind when I ceased to be a Christian.
I was the same person, but with different beliefs. How I got there, that's a longer story.

If you want to say you don't like Christians, or can't understand their rationale, fine.
But by erroneously attributing their beliefs and behaviour to lack of mind, you are throwing a spotlight on your own thought processes.
