Hi:
I had written to a former boss by writing a physical letter to their home mailing address in writing them a letter because I still have things I bother me that I am working to forgive them for. I got a very angry and hostile message in telling me not to contact them ever again.

Should I have handled better or differently?

It would have been better to, after writing the letter, physically burn it until there was nothing left but ashes.
Or tear it up into tiny pieces and throw it away.

That wasn't the right thing to do.

It would have gotten you nowhere. And those people had a predictable reaction to it.

Phoenix is quite right.

Please move on.

How did you get their home address?

If they didn't give it to you then it may feel like an invasion of privacy.

What was the tone of the letter? We're you expressing a wish to make amends or did you write a list if angry criticism?

Imagine you are in a safe place like your home and you get an abusive letter. Would that make you feel safe? Or would it scare you? Do you think that fear might make you react angrily and defensively?

What was the outcome you expected?

1. I got the address in an online database because it was to my understanding that the company had closed down last week.

2. I didn't really list every detail but I talk about one situation that I had been stewing over for a long time.

3. I said that I forgave them for it and wished them well

I would have went to his house and thrown a brick in his window

Well at least you didn't do that Summertwilight :) that definitely would be the wrong thing.

Oh well. I hope you can move on from this now if it's been bothering you for so long.

What would have been wrong with that? Maybe the boss likes bricks

Show him you mean business. He will appreciate how seriously you take his business, as the boss.

And then explain it to the police and a magistrate.

Throwing a brick implies that I would have still been angry with them and shown even more deep seeded hatred.

Anyway, they got ahold of the letter didn't bother to acknowledge anything that I said. Rather they accused me of "Condeming" their family and using my autism as an excuse to get away with things to be miserable though we haven't seen each other or really spoken in 4 and a half years.

Throwing a brick would get you arrested.

I also take this last private message as a warning that this person could put a restraining order against me.

Please, really, just move on.

It's not worth all the heartache you're experiencing.

Overall I think most people would interpret this as stalkerish and make an issue... you're almost seriously better off with the brick because no one would know who did it at least... (I'm actually joking)
