Hello.
I know most of us get uncomfortable recieving compliments but how about giving them? It always feels awkward and forced to for me unless it is someone really close to me and I genuinely mean it. I feel like I should compliment friends more to make them feel good- say if they get a new haircut or take a nice picture of themselves, but it really doesn't come naturally for me and I hate it haha.

I enjoy giving compliments. Very much.

I wish I could respond to compliments sent my way better.

When I do it, it usually IS forced and awkward, Lol! I never see the point of compliments, as you're usually met with a "thank you" and that is it (no neurotypical social points gained).

Regardless, I would also like to compliment more as well but find it difficult.

Find it awkward to give compliments. Don't really know what to say?

Feel a bit weird saying 'oh, that's a nice dress' or whatever - when it isn't...

Why do most people on here feel awkward receiving compliments? I feel awkward receiving compliments but didn't know this was a thing...

I'm not gushing with compliments for compliments sake. Usually I compliment if it's something I'm interested in talking about. I feel that the person receiving the compliment deserves it.

Giving a compliment is a sign of appreciation that someone looks better or most precisely when she or he accomplished something great. It is another way of motivating or making someone feels good about the things he did. It's quite easy for me to give it to anyone who really deserves it.

Why? Is it that you rarely like their pictures or haircuts? Is it just that you don't know how to present the compliment naturally?

I don't know about you, but I remember when someone compliments me or others. It feels good to focus on the positive, and genuine compliments bring out the best in people. That can only gain "social points" among many types of people.

I like giving (sincere) compliments. It makes me feel like I've done somethjng nice, it makes someone else feel good, and it's a nice way to avoid the issue of not knowing what to say to someone.

Yes, you may not gain any social points, but at times it can allow them to think you think well of them. Because for all the metaphors about neurotypicals being mind readers, they can have great difficulty conceiving what you think if you don't do the narrow standard practice of communication. At least it may help in some instance from giving them a negative impression. And indeed in some instances I don't see the point in compliments and I prefer to give compliments I actually mean.

I don't like receiving compliments, so I follow the Golden Rule and don't give them to others.

I barely acknowledge other people and I never compliment them. I feel uncomfortable being complimented myself so it would feel hypocritical to me to subject other people to a similar experience.

To me it still feels forced, awkward and unnatural even so. Giving compliments doesn't come natural to me, and I would never see a haircut or a picture of them as something to comment on at all.

I can count on one hand the instances in my life when giving a compliment came naturally to me.
