Over the decades I decided that having friends was more trouble than it was worth. I simply got used to not having any. I have used a slogan "friends are just people waiting to take advantage of you". A recent trip to Cuba where I met groups of people that showered me with attention revealed just how much that I was fooling myself. While I was explaining how much better our system is than the socialist system, someone replied, "If you're so happy, then why are you so starved for attention". That really hit home. I suspect that these decades of lone wolf-ism has resulted in more psychological damage than I care to admit. I guess it's a good idea to start building contacts and making acquaintances if not friends. I don't even know where to start. What I do know is that I'm not as happy as I should be.
