So in the spirit of saying yes to all invitations when I'm in a new city, I've accepted an invitation to a colleague's child's birthday party. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to bring a gift? This is a colleague I barely know - I met him a month ago and he is part-time so haven't seen him often at work. It's not a typical kid's birthday party - it's a small gathering at a regular restaurant.

Simple. Ask if you should bring a gift. If yes, ask what that person would like.

I would bring a small gift. A puzzle or something.
