My experience is contrary to that "always".

I have seemed to notice this at just about every congregation that though I get along with people, I seem to hear them making plans to this or that together right in front of me.

I'm not religious but I did had some contact with catholic church and I had a very different experience. it was one of the few places I felt genuinely welcomed and people were warm and nice, they where also quite progressivist, I learned too much from them although I didn't engaged in any religious activity (I just used to volunteer at a second hand shop in a church)
maybe I was just lucky?? because I know people who has different experiences. .
Oh don't get me wrong, I have had good experiences of them welcoming me and even offering to eat lunch with me and mingle with me during events. I even have no problem attending events planned through the congregation. Really, it;s more the personal things like seeming to find something who wants to ask me to do this or that like: "Doing a wine tasting" or "Seeing a play." Yet, I seem to hear them making plans with other people to do those things.
